Career History
On 25 May 1955, Clemente was born in the Tróino district of Setúbal under his birth name, Manuel Clemente Azevedo.
Clemente is a member of the band Antecipação, which released an album in 1972.
Release of his first solo record: an EP for the Rapsódia label in Porto, featuring four tracks: ‘Céu’ (‘Ciel’ by Gil Chazal), ‘Hello, Amor’ (‘Hello, my love’ by Theo Van Es), ‘Meu Bom Jesus’ (a cover version of ‘Petit Jesus’ by J. Renard and Claude François) and ‘Escuta-me’ (‘Escuchame’ by T. Martinez).
An annual release of an album, mostly comprising cover versions, including the Portuguese versions of the winning songs from the Eurovision Song Contest.
With his LP "Cantigas Que o Povo Fez", Clemente is venturing into traditional Portuguese music for the first time.
With ‘Vais Partir’, for which he was awarded silver, gold and platinum, he celebrated one of his greatest successes: it was the first song he recorded for the Rossil label. His success continued with ‘Canção dos Teus Cabelos’ and ‘Balada dos Caçadores’, with which he took part in the Festival da Canção da Rádio Comercial.
Clemente signs a contract with the Polygram label and releases his first single there, entitled “Amore Mio”, for which he receives a gold disc bearing the label’s logo.
Participation in the Slanchev Briag Festival (Bulgaria, 1984), the Yamaha Song Festival in Tokyo (Japan, 1984), in Puerto Rico (1984), the Canzoneta Malteza – Malta (1985), the Festival do Mediterrâneo in Turkey (1989) and in Tel Aviv (Israel, 1990), where he won several prizes, particularly for his performance.
Clemente switches record labels, signs a contract with Vidisco and releases the CD "Romântico", for which he is once again awarded a Gold Disc.
The now internationally renowned singer from Setúbal recorded the CD "Pelo Meu Caminho", featuring arrangements by Ramon Gallarza, José Marinho and Hernâni Raposo, on which the song Colmeia do Amor can be heard for the first time – another of the resounding successes in the singer’s career. The same CD also features the debut of the duet ‘Tu Só Tu’ with Alexandra, a Portuguese version of the international hit ‘Something’s Stupid’, originally performed by Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy. Also included is the duet “Toureiro” with Neno, a Portuguese goalkeeper and singer who played for Benfica, Vitória de Guimarães and the national team, as well as the Azorean track “Nove Ilhas, Dez Amores”.

Clemente is changing his musical direction with an album produced by LFB Records, to which Luis Filipe Batista has contributed 12 songs. For the first time, Clemente is writing the lyrics himself.
Clemente regularly appears on various programmes on Portuguese television channels as well as on many international channels.
